GE - Procurement Software for GE's Marketplace

Overview:   GE Global Exchange Services operates one of the largest B2B eCommerce networks in the world, with over 100,000 trading partners worldwide. This network supports over one billion transactions a year, representing over one trillion dollars of goods and services. GE has launched Express Marketplace, which enables companies to maximize visibility into their supply chain. This marketplace provides it members with features that include procurement management, collaboration, RFQs, dynamic buying and selling of indirect and direct goods, multi-catalogue management and data conversion.

Business Challenge:   Although GE had custom developed many aspects of the Express Marketplace, the company decided to use third-party software built by Commerce One to provide their customers with robust procurement functionality. Although GE now had the strongest possible set of functionality to provide its customers, the Commerce One procurement functionality was not integrated with the rest of the Express Marketplace. Without this integration, GE could not realize the full potential of its solution and could not provide a seamless user experience.

Business Solution:   As a Commerce One partner, DDGlobal helped Commerce One develop its XML Portal Connector (XPC) integration tool. DDGlobal used this intimate knowledge of XPC to integrate the Commerce One procurement software with GE's Express Marketplace components. This integration required DDGlobal's developers to use their extensive experience in Java and eCommerce application integration. DDGlobal finished this project in just two weeks, allowing GE to take its product to market very quickly.

Benefits:   DDGlobal helped GE develop an integration approach on their Unix platform that provides the scalability and reliability needed in a world-class procurement management tool. As a result of the integration, buyers and suppliers can now transact real time via the Express Marketplace.
