Nestle Overview: Re-launch of the corporate Web site with the following objectives: support the parent brand philosophy; update the brand company presentation. Business Goals: The new Nestle Internet Web site presents three major themes with which the company's brand values are positioned and interact with users. The area "Nestle Life" focuses on Nestle and its brands for a healthy and enjoyable life. A "Lifestyle" magazine is integrated with the site that presents current news on the topics such as food, drinks, health, wellness, and fitness. The second goal is presenting the Nestle Company story through a corporate Web site with all critical business functions. The "Nestle brands" are the third channel that represents individual brands and products. It is particularly intended for end users, but also supplies interesting background information for other target groups. There are also links to all the individual brands with separate sites and many pages of content for each brand. Business Solution: A scalable concept was developed that will be expanded to include tools and features to be rolled out in a phased approach. The front-end of the Web site was completely redesigned, as well as the IT infrastructure in the background by integrating the existing technical system landscape into the Web presence. Technical Solution: For the system implementation, DDGlobal (Ukraine) engineers selected the J2EE platform. The server environment is built on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server operating system, Resin Servlet Runner application server, and an Oracle 8i database. The choice of the J2EE platform and a set of open-source supplemental packages reduced the cost of the development process and created a scalable and robust system. The entire system consists of more than 1000 code-classes and over 1000 web pages. For the ease of day-to-day management, the site was equipped with a Content Management System. The CMS allows the data entry agency to work comfortably with the new system as well as with the legacy Microsoft Access application without additional training. Additionally, this system allows for the web-based management of all services - from editing Job Center entries to the user and mailing lists maintenance. The system provides secure and strict user rights management ability in order to hide protected areas from unauthorized access. Outcome of Engagement: The custom solution built by DDGlobal engineers provides Nestle with a robust and scalable CMS that effectively manages multiple content pieces for each front-end section. The benefits to this solution include rapid deployment of new Web site's area, reduced cost of operations, and better control of content and rich media.
