United Nations -Portal Solution for a United Nations Project IW Learn

Overview: IW:LEARN, the International Waters Learning Exchange and Resource Network, is a project supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and World Bank. IW:LEARN aims to foster the emergence of a global knowledge community to protect, restore, and manage the Earth's trans-boundary water resources.

Business Challenge: As part of its UNDP grant obligations, IW:LEARN is dedicated to developing a series of web sites, individually customized to specific international waters issues, regions, or communities - yet all founded upon a similar set of IT tools and systems, and adapted to various local needs and priorities. In order to benefit its users, this community will:

  • Offer a community portal and document repository to seek expert information and consolidate useful industry resources.
  • Provide training on strategic use of cost-effective communication technologies in international water resources management
  • Identify and develop relevant distance learning opportunities
  • Foster peer-to-peer (P2P) knowledge sharing among water resources managers
  • Serve as a focal point for those in search of solutions to international water resources problems.

The implementation of these highly technical communication and resource management tools creates two business challenges for IW:LEARN: budget constraints stemming from its not for profit nature, and compliance with varying bandwidths and technology requirements while providing countries all over the world with high speed and performance savvy tools.

Business Solution: DDGlobal worked with IW:LEARN in a series of Joint Application Design (JAD) sessions to gather technology and business requirements. As a result of these sessions and additional analysis, DDGlobal developed an efficient strategy to build an effective online community for team building, distance learning, and knowledge sharing. In addition, DDGlobal's creative experts were involved in a number of design sessions and developed the organization's logo and site's look-and-feel promoting the organization's vision and goals.
