EventLife – Trade Show Industry Solution
Overview: Over $40 billion is spent annually on admissions at trade shows, spectator sports, and performing arts events. EventLife's vision is to be the first complete business-to-business content and service provider in the event industry connecting Internet and corporate intranet users with professional, consumer and educational events. This service will allow users access to information on events, registration, tickets, travel, consumer goods, and reviews associated with the events. Business Challenge : EventLife needed to focus and define their business, attract investors & clients, and build a service that existed in three different environments. There would be an EventLife destination site, a co-branded look (where EventLife would take on the look and feel of the host site in providing their service), and a corporate look (where EventLife sat on corporate intranets that would access the EventLife service but would maintain the look and feel of the corporate site). Business Solution : A brochure site was set up that announced the coming of EventLife that gave information about the service, key personnel, and a login and password. The login and password was controlled by EventLife to give access to potential investors, clients, or marketers. This would lead the user to the appropriate presentation (different presentations were geared for the specific audiences - e.g. an investor would get a presentation that was specifically written for the venture capitalist audience, while the marketer would get a different presentation promoting the advantages of posting on EventLife). The site has robust management tools for EventLife administrators, as well as for marketers and corporate users. The site offers the following capabilities:
In later phases, there will be skills aptitude tests that will feed results into an algorithm that will guide people to specific training events. There will also be a budget management tool for managers that have to track training budgets and will automatically adjust balance as personnel attend training events through EventLife. The EventLife calendar will be able to synchronize with both Outlook and PDAs. Eventually, we are looking at wireless functionality. Technical Solution : The technologies implemented include Active Server Pages, SQL Server, Visual Basic, VBScript, and custom COM+ components. BizTalk will be implemented after initial launch. Outcome of Engagement: The service will be designed around Microsoft BizTalk and Commerce allowing for seamless exchange of various data formats. With competitive positioning, shorter time to market and exclusive co-branding (e.g. with the CNET.com), EventLife can drive and maintain traffic to their site.
