Limp Bizkit – Award Winning Entertainment Design
Overview: The Firm is one of the largest Artist Management/ Entertainment organizations in the world with an artist roster that includes Limp Bizkit, Backstreet Boys, Korn, Orgy and Michael Jackson. The Firm gave DDGlobal the online objective to create a centrally located Content Management System (CMS) back-end that will enable The Firm to manage all of its clients' Web sites internally. The first Web site to be deployed on this back-end is Interscope recording artist, Limp Bizkit. Please visit LimpBizkit.com. Business Challenge: The Firm wanted DDGlobal to create a robust CMS that would support multiple artist Web sites while keeping a personal and unique front-end for each. These Web sites will allow the artist(s) to communicate directly with fans via the Internet. The custom administration utility enables The Firm to capture valuable customer information, analyze Web site traffic, manage multimedia content and the ability to send bulk emails to each artist's fan base all from a centralized database." Business and Technical Solutions: The solution implemented by DDGlobal provides a dynamic back-end with 6 Dell servers running Windows 2000 with IIS 5.0. The technologies implemented include Visual Basic, VBScript, JAVA Script, ASP, SQL Server 7.0, Custom ActiveX COM, CyberCash, Web Trends, Digi Chat and Akamai content caching and streaming services. The Firm asked DDGlobal to focus its initial front-end efforts on Limp Bizkit to effectively promote the new album entitled, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. The DDGlobal LA team spent many hours designing the look & feel of the site and integrating into the CMS. The team was under a significant time crunch and created the front-end, integrated with the back-end and had it tested in 10 days. This particular front-end utilizes a Macromedia Flash introduction and serves as the destination for Limp Bizkit's fan community. The site incorporates artwork and fonts from Wes Borland, Limp's lead guitarist, giving the site a personal feel. On occasion, the band members appear in the chat room to provide a truly interactive means of communicating. The CMS was built with Active Server Pages integrated into a SQL Server database. DDGlobal built the CMS with the capability for artists to do the following tasks from any browser on the Web.
Benefits: In January of 2001, Rolling Stone magazine readers voted Limp Bizkit's site the number two fan site in their annual poll. Currently, The Limp Bizkit site is experiencing approximately 1.5 million visits a week. DDGlobal created a fully scalable platform that allows The Firm to add new servers horizontally to meet any increases in demand with little effort. DDGlobal's custom solution provides The Firm with a robust and scalable CMS that effectively manages multiple content pieces for each artist's front-end. The benefits to this solution include rapid deployment of new artist's Web sites, r educed costs and better control of content and rich media.
